SERVICE.--Moved to Louisville, Ky., November 17-20, 1861. At Camp Jenkins until December 6, and at Shepherdsville, Lebanon Junction and Belmont, Ky., guarding Louisville & Nashville Railroad until March, 1862. Moved to Nashville, Tenn., March 11-24, and duty there until April 27. Moved to Murfreesboro, Tenn., April 27, and garrison duty there until July. Dumont's Expedition to Pikesville June 11-18. Forest's attack on Murfreesboro July 13. Regiment surrendered, paroled and sent to Benton Barracks, Mo., Company "C" being on detached duty was not captured. Joined 2nd Minnesota at Nashville, Tenn., and with it until September 30, when left for Minnesota. March to Wartrace July 13, thence to Tullahoma July 15, and to Murfreesboro July 22. To Nashville, Tenn., with prisoners August. Regiment declared exchanged August 27. Moved to Minnesota August 28-September 4. March to Fort Ridgly to Join Sibley September 5-13. Sibley's Campaign against hostile Sioux Indians September 13-November 14. Battle of Wood Lake, Yellow Medicina, September 23. A detachment of Regiment march from Fort Snelling to relief of Fort Abercrombie on Red River September 11-October 5, then Joined Regiment at Camp Release. Duty at Fort Snelling reorganizing until January 16, 1863. Moved to Cairo, Ill., January 16-26, 1863, thence to Columbus, Ky., February 3, and duty there until March 12. Expedition to Fort Heiman March 12-14. Duty at Fort Heiman and operations against guerrillas until June 2. Expedition into Tennessee May 26-June 2 (Cos. "B," "D," "G" and "H"). Moved to Columbus, Ky., thence to Vicksburg, Miss., June 2-9. Siege of Vicksburg, Miss., June 9-July 4. Moved to Oak Ridge July 5, and duty there until July 21. Moved to Helena, Ark., July 24-26. Steele's Expedition to Little Rock August 13-September 10. Bayou Fourche and capture of Little Rock September 10. Garrison duty at Little Rock until April 28, 1864. Regiment veteranize January, 1864. Expedition up White River to Augusta March 30-April 3. Battle of Fitzhugh's Woods April 1 (Cos. "B," "C," "E," "G," "H" and "I"). Moved to Pine Bluff April 28, and duty there until October 10. Veterans of Companies "B," "C," "E," "G," "H" and "I" on furlough August 14-October 17. Rejoined at Duvall's Bluff. Non-Veterans moved to Duvall's Bluff October 10, and duty there until May 13, 1865. Moved to Batesville May 13-20. Companies assigned to duty as follows: "D" and "G" at Batesville, "A" and "F" at Searcy, "E" and "H" at Augusta, "B," "C," "I" and "K" at Jacksonport, Companies "C" and "I" moved to Powhatan July 19. Regiment concentrated at Jacksonport and moved to Duvall's Bluff August 29, Mustered out September 2 and discharged at Fort Snelling, Minn., September 16, 1865.
Regiment lost during service 17 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 4 Officers and 275 Enlisted men by disease. Total 296. [4]
