- Henry enlisted August 28, 1863, at Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to serve three years as a substitute for Jonas Wolf, and was mustered into Federal service the same day. At that time he was listed as a 31 year old, 5'5" tall gunsmith, with auburn hair, gray eyes and a fair complexion, born in Germany. He spent his entire military service at Carlisle Barracks.
On December 24, 1863, Henry was listed as sick and returned to duty January 7, 1864. On the muster roll of Jan/Feb., 1865, he was listed as absent conducting troops to their regiments. On May 5, 1865, he was mustered out of Federal service at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. On the muster out roll it was noted that he was due $75.00 of his enlistment bounty. [1]
